Celestún Day Trip – February 21, 2015 / 10:00am – 06:00pm
Celestún is located only 98 km (60 miles) southwest of Merida. The group will be collected at the hotel and taken aboard of a comfortable minivan. 1 hour and 30 minutes later we will embark on a trip to the estuary of Celestún, a place declared a Biosphere Reserve. This wildlife refuge is one of the few places in the world one can see more than 230 species of mammals, including ocelots, jaguars and spider monkeys in their wild habitat.
We’ll then browse through the mangrove path a half hour by boat to reach and admire pink flamingos. Afterwards we will stop to enjoy a refreshing swim in the waterholes (ojo de agua) – a deep pool hidden among the natural estuary. The day trip finishes on the sandy beach; we will have time to swim and enjoy lunch before returning to our hotel in Merida.
